WOODTURNING

As bowlmakers, we discovered that not all the cores we make are the right shape or size for our own lathe. But they could be perfect for yours. We’ve set aside hundreds of vacuum-dried cores for woodturners, in a variety of wood species and sizes. Let us know what you’re looking for.

WE CORE you TURN

Let us do the heavy lifting so you can focus on the craft of turning. We can expertly core and dry up to 650 bowls per week; cores that are ready for whatever design intricacies you want to execute.

WE know WOOD

The core of great bowl making starts with the wood.
THE WOOD: Before we even cut a log for cores, we let it ‘season’. Seasoning brings out some of the natural darkening and enhanced coloring in the wood. To maximize figure and stability, we first cut the log into long pieces, then between the knots for fewer defects.

THE LATHE: We’ve adapted an old technology to build a modern lathe that increases efficiency and accuracy, reduces waste while maximizing the wood, and is much easier on the craftsperson turning the cores.

THE KILN: Our specialized kiln is based on newer technology that we utilize in the tonewood we mill for guitar makers. We can fully dry bowl cores in one week; cores that are more concentric in their overall shape which means easier turning for the bowl maker.
